T-Ro Price targets T. Rowe Price in trademark lawsuit

BALTIMORE - Investment management consultant T-Ro Price has filed a trademark infringement suit against investment management firm T. Rowe Price.

The Wentzville, Missouri resident Tad Rowen Price, Jr., known to colleagues and local authorities as "T-Ro," claims that T. Rowe Price impinges on his investment activities carried out under a similar name.

T. Rowe Price, headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, is an investment management firm founded by Thomas Rowe Price, Jr. in 1937. It has offices around the world, and operates with two well-known slogans, "What is good for the client is also good for the firm," and "Invest with confidence."

T-Ro Price also engages in investment management, albeit on a smaller scale than the defendant. Price's lawsuit aims to curtail T. Rowe's business activities and advertising within a 5-mile radius of the Xpress Motor Lodge by interstate exit 237. His trademark quotes are "What's good for T-Ro is good for my honeys," and "I told you dog, it's T-Ro!"

T. Rowe Price representatives have called the lawsuit groundless and frivolous, and do not expect it to reach trial. "We do not wish to discourage Mr. Price's entrepreneurial activities. We will remind him, however, that we had the name T. Rowe Price long before he ever started a business."

T. Rowe Price's logo features a ram, and T-Ro is frequently photographed wearing a jersey of the St. Louis Rams. One T. Rowe Price spokesperson pointed that fact out as a possible basis for a countersuit.

Price was not concerned about the possibility of becoming a defendant in a possible countersuit by the much larger and better funded firm. "Hell, I been a defendant lots of times."

  1. I thought Jerry Springer was still on the air, I guess this guy has nothing better to do with his time.

  2. Let me guess, his lawyer's name is Merrill Lynch.

  3. Merle Lynch and Jay-P Morgan, Attorneys At Law.

  4. since 1937???? I guess this dude is just waking up!!! that should be some free money for the lawyers that take up his case.

  5. Does this guy realize that T. Rowe Price has been trademarked since before he was born? Maybe if he actually got a degree...

  6. A degree in satire detection?

  7. Unbelievable! Another worthless case to hose up the Judicial System. Tad Rowan Price needs a life!
